I am a proud Hyderabadi and needless to say I love Hyderabad and everything about it. I miss that place and food so much. One of my all-time favourite sweet is Double-Ka-Meetha / Indian Bread Pudding. This is a special Hyderabadi sweet which is a part of "The Hyderabadi Menu". It's easy to prepare at home too. Lets check it out.

Ingredients:

Plain Bread - 10
Milk - 6 cups
Sugar - 2 cups(You can increase/decrease the quantity based on your taste)
Deep Orange Color - Half tablespoon
Cardamom Powder - Half tablespoon

Preparation:

Take a pan to heat and fry the bread pieces by applying ghee on both the sides till they turn crisp and light brown in color.
Keep these bread pieces aside and allow to cool.
Take a pan to heat and add milk to it. Boil it at medium heat for 15 mins.
Add sugar, cardamom powder and color and boil for another 10 mins till the milk texture thickens.

Once it thickens a bit, remove it from heat and add the bread pieces and leave for 10 mins.

You can even add any kind of mixed nuts you wish to at this stage.
Post that, mix it well and serve the delicious double-ka-meetha/ bread pudding.
A point to remember here is if you wish to keep the bread pieces intact donot mix much. Just one time would be enough as the bread pieces would be soft. I prefer it if the bread pieces are not visible, hence I mixed it more than once.

Serving Options:

It tastes really well if served as it is. You may even try out butterscotch icecream along with this. It tastes heaven.

    1. Thanks rafeeda. Yeah I can tell you the reason why it is called double kaa meetha. When we cook this sweet the bread which we use swells almost double the size than its original when we dip it in sweetened milk(it absorbs the milk right), hence the name Double- Ka- Meetha :).
      Translation below :
      Double --> Double the size
      Ka Meetha --> Of Sweet
