Mango dal or Maamidikaaya pappu is very famous dal in Andhra Pradesh. Personally, its my favourite kind of dal because of its tangy taste. It goes really well with all the side dishes. Its simple to prepare and the preparation is similar to that of palak dal. If you want to taste the best dal, you must try this out.
Ingredients:
Toor dal - 2 cups
Raw Mango/Raw Maamidikaaya - 1
Mustard Seeds - 1 tablespoon
Cumin Seeds - 1 tablespoon
Urad dal - 1 tablespoon
Curry Leaves - 7
Coriander Leaves - Half bunch(Finely chopped)
Ginger - Half tablespoon(Finely chopped)
Green Chillies - 5
Water - 3 cups
Salt - As per taste
Turmeric Powder - 1 tablespoon
Oil - 2 tablespoons
Preparation:
Take a bowl and add toor dal, turmeric powder, salt, green chillies, ginger and 1 tablespoon of oil.Mix it and add 2 cups of water to it.
Peel off the mango and cut it into small pieces. Take another bowl and add mango in it.
Take these two bowls and place it in pressure cooker. Cook it for 3-4 whistles.
Take a bottomed vessel to heat and add 1 tablespoon of oil to it. Add urad dal, mustard seeds and cumin seeds till they pop. Then add curry leaves and coriander leaves and mix. Add the cooked mango pieces and mix.
Add the mashed dal to this and mix well.
Cook for 10 mins and remove from heat and serve hot.
Serving Options:
Serve it with steamed rice and ghee along with pickle of your choice.
