I celebrated my 24th in March by gifting myself the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer. Now, MAC is a dream brand for every beauty expert and there is a reason professional makeup artists all over the world use this brand. This concealer has been on my wishlist for a long time and I was waiting for the right moment. I was confused between the MAC Pro Conceal, Correct Palette and the MAC Pro Longwear Concealer, but looking at the hefty price tag, I decided for the latter. I have been using this in many ways for a good 2 months now and here's my detailed review on the same.
About MAC Pro Longwear Concealer NC42:
A lightweight fluid concealer that provides medium to full coverage with a comfortable natural matte finish. Gives a smoother, flawless-looking finish on the skin. Helps to conceal flaws, dark spots, skin discoloration and under-eye circles.
Price:
2100 INR / $22.00 for 9 ml / 0.30 US fl oz
Shelf Life:
2 years
Ingredients List:
Directions For Use:
Apply to skin directly using a finger or with a concealer brush. Blend with finger, sponge or brush.
My Experience With MAC Pro Longwear Concealer NC42:
MAC Pro Longwear Concealer comes in a simple yet articulated packaging. It has a small cylindrical body with a pump to dispense the product. The transparent bottle enables you to see the shade easily and also the shade name is written on the bottom. The pump is further enclosed with an opaque black cap. What I didn't like is that the pump gets dirty as you continue to use it and you have to clean it as and when you use. Also, the pump dispenses excess product every time and it does lead to wastage. I would have preferred a wand packaging over this. Otherwise, the packaging is efficient and travel-friendly.
The texture of the product is pretty workable. It has medium kind of consistency – neither runny nor thick. It also has a creamy touch to it and the moment you start blending, you would know how easy it is to work with. Also, I noticed that you need a very tiny amount, preferably few dots because with this concealer 'less is more'. You can definitely build-up if required but start off with few dots. Coming to the coverage, it gives medium to full coverage. I have hereditary dark circles so I have to use a peach/orange corrector. I use a slight layer of the orange corrector and use this MAC concealer to conceal and brighten.
The shade range is phenomenally good. It offers around 16 shades of cool and warm undertones and intentionally I chose the shade which matches my skin tone. My skin tone matched with NC42 which has a distinct warm undertone and doesn't make me look ashy at all. I wanted my under eyes to look properly concealed (rather than ashy and white) and also used the same concealer for the face. For the face, I either mix with low coverage liquid foundations or with BB/CC creams or sometimes even with my tinted sunscreen. Even for face, it gives me medium coverage when mixed with other base products. So, you see, it is multi-purpose. The concealer is waterproof and smudge proof. Once you have set the concealer with a loose powder, it is not going to smudge or melt at all.
The application of the product is easy. After the color corrector, I simply apply a light layer of this concealer with a medium flat brush in a triangle shape and blend everything by dabbing my YBP sponge. It gives a very refreshing look and doesn't look cakey at all. Dabbing motion is the best way to blend the product. The concealer has a soft matte finish but it does crease under my eyes (I have wrinkles so literally every concealer creases). However, once you immediately set it, it doesn't look untidy at all. If you have dry skin, you won't need to set the concealer on the face. Coming to photography, it has no SPF and thus there is no flashback at all. The concealer doesn't oxidize as well. Thus, it's the perfect concealer for red carpet events, special occasions, wedding and photo shoots. Moreover, it doesn't contain oils, talc or parabens in its formula.
The staying power of the product is truly good. It stayed on my skin for 9+ hours even in sultry summer months. The longevity in winter is all day long. If you go for the right shade, the foundation doesn't look unnatural or made up at all. It gives a natural look and quality wise, it is great. The concealer is dermatologist tested, ophthalmologist tested, non-acnegenic and fragrance-free. However, MAC products are expensive and therefore, I had to think thrice before investing. Also, if you are not sure of the shades, I would advise not to buy online. Visit a MAC store nearby to see and swatch 2-3 shades similar to yours and then purchase it.

MAC Pro Longwear Concealer is a great light concealer with a medium consistency and gives medium to full coverage. It has its fair share of cons but surely the product is good. Also, if you want a pro concealing experience and natural look, try investing in the MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette. I tried this at the store and liked it quite well and it has various shades to mix and match.
